Frequently asked questions

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is a term for many different methods and styles of breathing. It's a powerful, safe, and natural somatic-based healing modality that helps us move energy in our body and regulate our nervous system. My approach incorporates a unique blend of pranayama, therapeutic breathing, gentle movement, and self-discovery. As a coach and facilitator, I guide you to learn different breathing methods based on your needs, and help you incorporate them into your daily life.

What are the benefits of breathwork?

There are many science-backed benefits of practicing breathwork on a regular basis. It can help reduce stress, relieve anxiety, improve sleep, boost immunity, increase mental focus, and balance energy. Certain methods can even help with emotional release from limiting beliefs, trauma, and grief.

Is breathwork right for me?

People practice breathwork for a variety of reasons, so it depends on your intentions.  If you aren't quite sure if it's right for you, or which of my offerings might be the best fit, I invite you to book a free consultation to ask questions, share your challenges, and chat with me.

How often and for how long should I do breathwork?

This should be based on your specific challenges, goals, and needs. In general, I would say that if you are new to breathwork, start with breath awareness and 1-2 minutes of conscious breathing twice per day. You can work up to breathing for 5 minutes or more at a time. Once you have a solid practice, I recommend conscious breathing for 10-15 minutes twice per day, therapeutically as needed during the day, and a weekly or monthly Breathwork Release Session.

Do I need previous breathwork experience to work with you?

Not at all. I work with people from all experience levels, whether you just learned what breathwork is or you've been practicing for years.

How did you train to become a breathing coach?

I trained with YOGABODY® to become a Certified Breathing Coach in 2020, and have also studied with Max Strom in his "Releasing and Healing Our Emotional Body" and "The Sunrise Within" programs. Personally, I have been practicing pranayama (or yoga breathing) for over 20 years as part of my yoga practice. Learn more about me.
